Rope access inspections
Jenny Wallace Ecology has also undertaken a suite of rope access inspections of bridges and rock slopes over the past ten years.
These specialist surveys allow close up inspection of potential roost features within bridges and rock slopes which can otherwise be very difficult to survey, especially over the winter months when bat activity surveys are not appropriate. Torches and endoscopes are used to search for evidence of bats (and nesting birds) and can take the form of active period phase 2 Potential Roost Feature (PRF) surveys or Winter HIbernation Surveys (WHIs).
Rope access surveys are carried out in conjunction with geologist and engineer Chris Ravey of Ravey Consulting Ltd. Chris holds an Industrial Rope Access (IRATA) Level 3 Supervisor Certificate and a PTS certificate for rail work.
Previous rope access surveys include rock slopes and bridges on major trunk roads, including: The A9 Slocht summit, A9 Drumochter Pass and A9 Killikrankie Viaduct, the A82 Ballachulish Bridge (plus adjacent rock slopes) and the A85 Orchy Bridge at Dalmally. Rock slopes on the west side of Loch Ness at A82 Alltsigh, the A830 west of Fort William and the A887 west of Invermoriston have also been surveyed.
